Literature & Fiction - Genre Fiction - Family Life
Your book cover is the first thing potential readers see, and honestly, most people do judge books by their covers. A professionally designed cover immediately signals quality and grabs attention in a crowded marketplace. At Ireland Publishing House, our book design services cover everything from striking cover designs for novels and non-fiction to specialised children’s book illustration for younger readers. We create covers that fit your genre, appeal to your target audience, and look professional whether they’re thumbnail-sized on Amazon or full-size in a bookshop. Whether you need a Kindle book cover design or a complete illustrated children’s book, we match you with designers who understand what makes covers sell.

We create professional designs for every type of book and audience. Our book cover design services cover fiction and non-fiction across all genres, literary novels, thrillers, romance, business books, memoirs, self-help, and academic works. We design for both print and digital formats, ensuring your cover looks stunning as a thumbnail on Amazon and impressive in physical bookshops.
For authors publishing on Kindle, our Kindle book design service optimises covers specifically for digital platforms where visibility is everything. We also specialise in children’s book illustration, creating vibrant, engaging artwork for picture books, early readers, and middle-grade fiction. Our book illustration services extend to interior illustrations for novels, chapter headers, and decorative elements that enhance the reading experience.

Choosing the right format depends entirely on where you’re planning to sell your book. If you’re publishing on Kindle or other ebook platforms, your cover needs to work as a tiny thumbnail, bold text, clear imagery, and designs that catch attention even when they’re postage-stamp sized on a screen. Print books need full wraparound designs including the spine and back cover, with dimensions that change based on your page count. Hardcovers have different requirements again, whether you’re doing dust jackets or printed cases.
Most authors publish in multiple formats, so we create designs that work across ebook, paperback, and hardcover versions, adjusting everything for each format’s specs. Your genre matters too, children’s book illustration looks best in full-colour print, whilst business books might focus on ebook accessibility since that’s where professionals read. We’ll talk through where your readers actually buy books and recommend formats that make sense commercially, rather than you paying for formats nobody’s going to purchase.
From your first idea to final print-ready files, our design process is clear, creative, and built around your book’s vision.
We start by understanding your book and vision. What’s your genre? Who’s your target audience? Do you have specific design ideas, colours, or imagery in mind, or are you open to our recommendations? We’ll discuss where your book will be sold, ebook only, print, or both, since format affects design choices. For children’s books, we talk about illustration style, age group, and how much text versus imagery you’re envisioning. We’ll also look at comparable books in your genre to see what’s working visually in your market. This conversation helps us match you with the right designer whose style fits your project.
Based on our consultation, your designer creates multiple cover concepts for you to review. These aren’t final designs, they’re visual directions showing different approaches your cover could take. Maybe one concept uses photography, another illustration, and a third focuses on bold typography. For children’s book illustration, you’ll see different artistic styles and character sketches. You review these concepts and tell us which direction feels right, what you like about each, and what’s not working. This feedback shapes everything that follows, so we take time getting to this stage right before investing hours into polishing a design you’re not excited about.
Once you’ve chosen your preferred concept, your designer develops it into a full cover design. This means refining colours, perfecting typography, adjusting layouts, and adding all necessary elements, title, author name, tagline, spine text, back cover content. You’ll receive this refined version to review, and we go through revision rounds based on your feedback. Maybe the title needs to be larger, the colours adjusted, or the imagery tweaked. We keep revising until you’re genuinely happy with how it looks. Most projects go through two to four revision rounds, though we don’t limit you to a specific number, we keep working until it’s right.
Once the design is approved, we adapt it for all the formats you need. Ebook covers are formatted for Kindle and other digital platforms with proper dimensions and file sizes. Print covers are created as full wraparounds including spine and back cover, calculated based on your exact page count and paper type. Hardcover designs are prepared with or without dust jackets depending on your choice. Each format has specific technical requirements, resolution, colour profiles, bleed areas, safe zones, that we handle according to printing and platform standards. You’ll receive properly formatted files for every version you’re publishing.
Before we consider the project finished, you get final versions of everything to review. We’ll show you how your cover looks at various sizes, full size, thumbnail, black and white, so you know exactly how it’ll appear to readers in different contexts. For print books, we provide mockups showing the full wraparound cover. Once you approve everything, we deliver high-resolution files in all necessary formats: JPEGs for online use, PDFs for printing, and any other specifications your publisher or printing service requires. You’ll also receive web-optimised versions for your author website and social media promotion.
Our job doesn’t end with file delivery. If you spot something that needs adjusting after seeing your printed book, or if you want to update your cover for a second edition, we’re available for revisions. Some authors later decide to add “bestseller” badges, award stickers, or updated testimonials to their covers; we handle those updates. If you’re publishing a series and need consistent branding across multiple books, we maintain your design files and create matching covers for subsequent titles.
Book cover design costs vary widely depending on what you need. A simple text-based cover costs far less than a fully illustrated children’s book with custom artwork. Ebook-only covers are cheaper than full print designs with spine and back cover.
We can’t give you an accurate price without understanding your project first. What type of book are you designing? Do you need just a Kindle book cover design or full print formats? Are you after stock imagery or custom illustration? These factors completely change the scope and cost. At Ireland Publishing House, we work with various budgets and match you with designers accordingly. During your free consultation, we’ll discuss your vision and recommend options that fit what you can realistically spend.
Customised pricing for every project – Costs depend on your book type, format needs, and whether you need stock imagery or custom illustration
